History of our Barangay

Barangay San Roque was created by Executive Order No. 052 during the incumbency of the late Mayor Norberto S. Amoranto of Quezon City.

The first few years of the Barangay comprised the formative period that were devoted to the organization, education, training and orientation of the Barangay officials who where then appointed by the City Mayor. During this period, the Barangay handled rice rationing, issuance of gas coupons, registration of aliens, and others for the benefit of the community.

In early 1980, the Barangay was allowed the use of a one-half hectare lot located at the corner of Bayani and Guirayan Streets by the City government which would become the future site of the brangay hall. In September 1980, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the proposed barangay hall. On September 11, 1981, amidst simple but impressive ceremonies, the San Roque barangay hall was inaugurated and blessed.

Since that time, the barangay hall has become a beehive of activity. The year 1981 saw the inauguration of the Barangay San Roque health center which provided free medical and dental services to the barangay residents. And in 1983, the construction of a basketball court as well as the playground for children, all situated at the back of the hall were completed. This created consciousness for sports activities.

Water services in the barangay became a reality in 1975 when the MWSS installed an eight-inch water main pipe from which the residents could tap water for their homes. This was made possible through the initiative of Councilor Honorio David, who sponsored a resolution at the City Council appropriating a certain sum of money for the water pipe installation.

Presidential Decree 684 provided for the creation of the Kabataang Barangay and this has contributed immensely in training our youth to the task of nation-building. The KB is to be credited for harnessing the energies of school dropouts, out-of-school youths, and the unemployed towards worthwhile activities like sports and vocational training. The KB had been tasked with the duty of sports development and this was the reason our youths were diverted from their usual unproductive activities to more wholesome and fruitful endeavors.

At this juncture, it might be well to mention the formation of the Barangay San Roque Drum and Bugle Corps composed of teenage students from then Barangay San Roque Elementary School and other resident children of the barangay.

The barangay council, conscious of its role in disseminating the proper information to its members, has acquired a loud speaker system to better facilitate and widen the coverage of periodic educational and information campaign.

Pursuant to law, the lupon tagapamayapa was created composed of prominent members of the community to assist in dispensing barangay justice.

Our barangay is still young in the literal sense of the word, but it has gone a long way since its creation in serving the needs of its constituents and will continue to face the challenge in the community with an uncompromising adherence to the rule of law, tempered with compassion and understanding.
